During this Unit, students will perform experiments to model the structure and function of watersheds. Students will look at the effects of water velocity on discharge, sedimentation, turbidity, and dissolved oxygen content in watersheds. Students will explore the effects of salinity and water temperature on the dissolved oxygen content of water. Students will be introduced to two new pieces of equipment, the oxygen meter and the spectrophotometer, in the course of this Unit.
Conceptual Themes addressed in this Unit:
- Properties of Matter
- Force and Motion
- Structure and Function
- Changes and Reactions
- Concentration
