During this Unit, students will conduct several investigations focused on the affects of tobacco and alcohol on the human body. By conducting experiments and investigating different variables, students will begin to draw conclusions concerning the relationship between long-term tobacco and alcohol use and diseases, such as, atherosclerosis, emphysema, and lung cancer.
As they perform these investigations, students will begin to identify the importance of minimizing their exposure to tobacco, as well as, avoiding the abuse of tobacco and alcohol. This Unit will challenge students to apply these ideas to their daily lives, building continuity between classroom investigation and daily applications.
